This Privacy Policy explains how Strives (strives.co.za) collects, uses, and protects your personal information. We aim to comply with South Africa's POPIA and, where applicable, the GDPR.

1. Information we collect

  • Account data: your name, email address, role, and hashed password.
  • Content you create: essays, drafts, tasks, calendar events, and schedule entries you add.
  • Usage & technical data: log data, approximate IP address, and device/browser information used for security and to operate the service.
  • Billing data: processed by PayPal. We store a payment reference and plan status — never your card or bank details.

2. How we use it

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the service.
  • To process your writing analysis, Humaniser, and planning features.
  • To secure accounts, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms.
  • To process subscriptions and communicate service and billing information.

We do not sell your personal information or Your Content.

3. Passwords & security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. We enforce a strong password policy, rate-limit sign-in and sign-up attempts, transmit data over HTTPS, and apply security headers (including a Content-Security-Policy and HSTS). No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data.

4. Sharing

We share personal information only with:

  • Service providers that host or process data on our behalf (e.g. our database and hosting providers, and PayPal for payments), under confidentiality obligations.
  • Your organisation/school administrator, if you use an organisation account, for the parts of the service they administer.
  • Authorities where required by law.

5. Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. You can request deletion of your account data from Settings; we will action it subject to any legal retention requirements.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these, use the tools in Settings or contact us.

7. Children

Strives is intended for high-school and university students and adults. If you are under the digital-consent age in your country, use the service only with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or school.

8. International transfers

Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country. Where it is, we take steps to ensure an adequate level of protection.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be posted here with a new date.
